Biography

Claudia Pacce wrote 15 books for children. She's also a poet, short story writer, chronicler, photographer, translator, cultural producer and company manager.

She's a mother of two sons and is Marrí's grandmother.

She began her literary career in 1981, writing to the newspaper Diário do Povo, in Campinas, where she lived for some time.

In 1982, she won first prize in the Short Stories and Poetry Contest of the Academic Center Professor Benedito José Sampaio of the Pontific Catholic University of Campinas - PUCC, with the poem "Quero" ("I want"). She is mentioned in the Dicionário Crítico de Autores Infanto-Juvenis da Literatura Brasileira (Critic Dictionary of Infant Juvenile Authors in Brazilian Literature), EDUSP, by Prof. Nelly Novaes Coelho.

Her books, A Cara das Minhas Idéias (The Face of My Ideas) and Chica Joana (Chica Joanna) were played in television in TV Cultura of São Paulo, in the program series Ra-Tchin-Bum (Ratchibum) and Canta Conto (Sing a Story), respectively. In 1988, she was nominated to the important award Jabuti of Literature, for her book Xodó (Dearest One). Another book she wrote, O Passarinho e o Menino (The Little Bird and the Little Boy) was adapted for a ballet presentation in Theater Castro Mendes in Campinas, in 1989.

Her books were adopted by over 300 schools in the State of São Paulo and many others throughout Brazil. In 1996, five of her books were chosen by the project of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC/FAE) for public schools in the country. In 2001, her poetry book Varre, Vento! (Sweep, Wind!) was also purchased by the Fundação para o Desenvolvimento da Educação (Foundation for the Development of Education) for the public school network in the City of São Paulo.

She says: "I'm a self-taught person applied in the school of life. With Mariavó (Marygranny) I learnt to read at the age of three, with the books written by Monteiro Lobato. With them, I learnt that each word has a story by itself. All I do is to unroll it."
