At the Sandy Bay meeting house, once again 'Mrs. Gammidge [was] chosen saxton for this year'--at long last with a pay hike to 10 shillings;...' *'Prior to...[the] arrival [of Dr. James Goss from Billerica], the Cape parish had had no doctor of its own, though for generations Mary Norwood Gammage had 'officiated in the medical line among her sex.' Then, too, widow Dorcas Grover Dresser, whose husband, Thomas, Jr., had 'died in the Revolution or soon after,' turned to good works and 'became a nurse woman and much of the time kept an infant school with Dorcas, Jr., assistant' between 1756 and 1765 at church in Sandy Bay meetinghouse, Rockport, Essex, Massachusetts.29
