FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

John 3:16

What a wonderful message! God loved us all so much that he sent His Son down to earth to die in order to give us life! Jesus is my Lord, my Savior, my Friend. He rejoices with me when I have a great day. He cries with me when I feel like the weight of the world is crushing down on me. I feel His pride and His love whenever I manage to think of someone else besides myself. We should all set aside some time during the day to talk to Jesus and God. I use the 10 minutes driving time to work as my daily communion. Sometimes God will even let me know He's there by giving me an absolutely gorgeous sunrise. I thank Him for the trees when I see their branches reaching upwards toward Him. I ask Him to bless my co-workers and to help me do the best job that I can do. To be perfectly honest, sometimes I don't really mean what I pray. I just say the words. But God and Jesus know what's really in my heart, whether I'm just tired and cranky, or mean and unforgiving, or just praying because it seems to be the right thing to do. Later, when I'm feeling better and realize what I've done, I ask forgiveness. And I know I get it. Jesus is that way. And I love Him very, very much.

THE WATERED LILIES

The Master stood in His garden,

Among the lilies fair,

Which His own right hand had planted,

And trained with tend'rest care.

He looked at their snowy blossoms,

And marked with observant eye

That the flowers were sadly drooping

For their leaves were parched and dry.

"My lilies need to be watered,"

The Heavenly Master said;

"Wherein shall I draw it for them,

And raise each drooping head?"

Close to His feet on the pathway,

Empty, and frail, and small,

An earthen vessel was lying,

Which seemed no use at all;

But the Master saw, and raised it

From the dust in which it lay,

And smiled, as He gently whispered,

"This shall do My work today."

"It is but an earthen vessel,

But it lay so close to Me.

It is small, but it is empty--

That is all it needs to be."

So to the fountain He took it,

And filled it full to the brim

How glad was the earthen vessel

To be of some use to Him!

He poured forth the living water

Over His lilies fair,

Until the vessel was empty,

And again He filled it there.

He watered the drooping lilies

Until they revived again;

And the Master saw with pleasure

That His labor had not been vain.

His own hand had drawn the water

Which refreshed the thirsty flowers;

But He used the earthen vessel

To convey the living showers.

And to itself it whispered,

As He laid it aside once more,

"Still will I lie in His pathway,

Just where I did before."

"Close would I keep to the Master,

Empty would I remain,

And perhaps some day He may use me

To water His flowers again."

GOD IS

God is Lord Almighty, Omnipotent King, Lion of Judah, Rock of Ages, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Provider, Protector, Paternal, Leader, ruling Lord and reigning King of all the universe. He is Father, Helper, Guardian and God.

He is the First and Last, the Beginning and the End. He is the Keeper of Creation and the Creator of all He keeps. He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times.

He always was, always is and always will be. He is unmoved, unchanged, undefeated and never undone. He was bruised and bought healing. He was pierced and eased pain. He was persecuted and bought freedom. He was dead and bought life. He is risen and brings power. He reigns and brings peace. The world can't understand Him; armies can't defeat Him; schools can't explain Him; and leaders can't ignore Him. Herod couldn't kill Him; the Pharisees couldn't confuse Him and the people couldn't hold Him! Nero couldn't crush Him; Hitler couldn't silence Him; New Age can't replace Him and you can't explain Him away!

He is light, love, longevity, and Lord. He is goodness, kindness, gentleness and God. He is holy, righteous, mighty, powerful and pure. His ways are right; His Word is eternal; His will is unchanging and His mind is on me!

God is in control. I am on His side and all is well with my soul.

Prayer:
Ever-loving God, who watches over us with endless love and care, I thank you for the journey of life and each of its stages for childhood, with its sense of wonder and discovery; for adolescence, with its miracle of growth and new relationships; for young adulthood, with its promise and its challenge; for mid-life, with its sobering retrospectives and adaptations; and for later years, with their joy and fulfillment and even their new beginnings. It is all a rainbow of splendor and excitement, a pilgrimage of learning and experience. Help me to walk in it always with a sense of your presence, of never being alone, of living forever under grace. Amen. © J. Brien McGarvey, 1999
