KOKOPELLI PAGE

Who is this happy dancing fluteplayer anyway?
Kokopelli's image first appeared more than 1,000
years ago etched into canyon walls in the land now
known as New Mexico, Those etchings, called petroglyphs,
were created by Native Americans from a variety of
tribal origins.

As time passed, the little flute-playing sprite
came to symbolize many things to different people-
from mischievous prankster to healing shaman, from
a symbol of fertility to the rainmaker who brings
spring flowers. Throughout, Kokopelli has been seen
as a familiar friend, a merry spirit whose charm is
irresistible. He is a true symbol of the southwest.

About a year ago a very good friend bought me my
first of many pieces of kokopelli jewelry. Since
then, I have become very interested in this
character, and I have quiet a collection. To
me he is a symbol of new life, and to commemorate
my new life I had a kokopelli tattoo done.
He is always with me, close to my heart.
