In Gorean, the term GOR means "Homestone." The planet itself is, quite literally, the Homestone of its people. A HomeStone is the physical, spiritual, social and emotional anchor of a Gorean. It is a the place a FreePerson owes loyalty, fealty and honor, for most it is the place of their birth, for others it is an adopted home,for a peasant it is no more than a rock in his hut, but each defends his HomeStone with his life."

Gor exists, according to the "Sun Shield theory," in the same orbit as the planet Earth, and circles the same sun, though not in direct view from Earth, the sun "shielding" the planet from view. Slightly smaller in size than that of Earth, it claims ownership of three moons, and because of its different mass and size, the gravity field is lighter than that of Earth. The Priest Kings, an alien species, founded the planet Gor long ago as their home. Because of atmospheric conditions, the Priest Kings were forced to find a new location for this planet. Earth, similar in many ways, and Earth's surrounding atmosphere, provided adequately for the Priest Kings. Thus became the "counter-Earth" known as Gor.

Many of the plants and animals found on Gor are unknown to Earth; perhaps some originating on Earth, but adapting to the strange, new gravity of Gor. Most of the beings on Gor originated from Earth, or at least their ancestors. Cultures from parts of Earth such as Italy, Greece, Arabia, Africa, India, the American Indians, the gypsies of Romania, and the Vikings are easily recognizable.

It is a world without pollution, without machines, without guns and nuclear missiles, television, telephones, and the internet. The people of Gor loving their planet, loving the beauty of nature, even revering such things.

Gor is a world where men dominate, and women are often kept as slaves so they may be better controlled. It is a misconception by many chat rooms, that cities and such are ruled by a Ubar. A Ubar is, in acuality, a War Chief, and the usage of such, appropriately so, in times of War. In most instances, cities are governed by an Administrator

Imagine a world where men are strong and honorable, unfettered by rules diluting their natural dominance, free to make and enforce a political structure  which recognizes them as Free persons, Masters and Owners on a planet where female slavery is law. This fantasy world exists in the twenty-five scrolls written by John Norman in his Counter-Earth series.

Gor isn't on earth. It's counter-Earth. Counter-Earth, or Gor is a fictional world created and developed by John Norman through the 25 books he wrote. Its orbit through space is exactly counter that of Earth, on the opposite side of the sun. Of course, Gor isn't "real" in the sense that it's a physical planet out in the solar system. That doesn't mean that Gor doesn't exist. It does. It exists in the hearts and minds of those who visit the various Gorean virtual sites.It lives in those who are the Warriors and the kajirae of virtual Worlds.

The world of Gor is very different than that of Earth, or Urth as it's called on Gor. There are free men and women, and then there are slaves. Free men are Warriors, bold, brave and strong. Free women are also bold, brave and strong, but their strength often comes within...a different strength than that of men. Slaves, kajiras(female slaves) and kajirus(male slaves)are trained to provide complete obedience and pleasure for their owners.
