Basic Infrastructure of Khabarovsky Province
Two major railways cross the Province - the Trans-Siberian Railroad and the
Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM). An international airport at Khabarovsk, handling 4 million
passengers per year, is the eastern gateway to Russia. The Amur River
Sreamship company, which operates on the Amur River and carries 20% of
Russia's trade with Japan, ships more than 30 million tons of cargo per
year. The port of Vanino (open to international shipping), the terminus
of the BAM and main supply point for Sakhalin (via ferry), is now planning port expansion.
