ORIENTAL SHORTHAIR DESCRIPTION

The Oriental Shorthair can be described as long; long head, long body, long whippy tail, and long neck. Their head is an upside down triangle with the tip being the Orientals chin with the outer edge of the triangle in line with the large ears.

Oriental Shorthairs are active, energetic, affectionate, loyal, intelligent, and demanding of their owners attention and will help with whatever you are doing. Some of our Orientals have very adept paws and can open cupboards that do not have latches or magnets. They love high places and no refrigerator is too tall as they say. They may want to join you in the bathtub, help you deliver clean laundry to their favorite closet or be with you snuggled under the covers or under your arm while you are sleeping! They are very social cats and love to be with their owners and/or another cat.

As with human beings the Oriental will vary in personality from cat to cat. One may be extremely talkative another may be extremely shy with others being in-between. Then we have those that are extremely affectionate while others may be slightly more independent. Each is unique in it's own way. If you have a specific quality in a cat that you are wanting, it's a good idea to tell the breeder.

The Oriental Shorthair is a very intelligent cat! It will hear your key in the door and come running to greet you! They love to play; some like to fetch small lightweight rubber balls, others love a crumpled piece of scrap paper, small fur mice, and feather teasers are a big hit with these cats.

Orientals love warm places and you need to be aware that they may crawl into a warm dryer seeking warmth and it's a good idea to remove any lamps with exposed light bulbs from the area of your new kitten/cat. They may burn their ears, eyes, and fur if they sun too long.

The Oriental is a low-maintenance cat as we call them. Just by petting the cat you will be grooming them. A weekly nail trimming with a pair of cat claw scissors, lots of TLC, a tall scratching post, premium quality food, fresh water, yearly vaccinations, and check-up are pretty much all the average Oriental will require plus sleeping with their humans.
