CZ Gets a Taste of Vintage Bud
For one week, it was 1995 all over again. That was the year Deitrich swept
through the regular season 13-0. His high water mark was a BRFL record 86 point
game. This year, it has been a struggle, 5-8 and a 10th place finish. Yet this
week, the clock was turned back for another 86 point gem.
CZ was the victim 86-34. The 86 points were all scored during the 1:00 games.
All afternoon it seemed that the Ten Minute Ticker was "sponsored by BUD".
Calvin Jackson Scores!
It was only a matter of time, but Calvin Jackson finally scored. We had been
waiting two years for the Miami Dolphin defensive back to return a pick and
on Monday night he brought one back. However, it was done without irony.
No one has the Miami Dolphin Defense. It did not effect a game involving our
own Calvin Jackson. Except maybe a tinge of regret on Calvin's part. He always
wanted to "own" his namesake. It may not have made a difference this week, but
he could have also claimed his "son" Willie, who scored for the Jags.
Outlaw's 25-16 win over Jackson wasn't pretty, but it gained Outlaw seventh
place. For a reigning champion under the current format, that is an
accomplishment: both Wallace (93) and Best (94) finished 12th the year after
their triumphs.
Ricker leaves Peil behind
Ricker, who looked doomed to the cellar after 10 weeks has come roaring out
with a 43-28 win over Peil. Ricker has won 3 straight to escape the basement
didn't get far though, although he tied for 10th, he loses all tiebreakers
to fall to 13th. That's the bad news, the good news is that the 13 seed has
never lost in week 14. Peil falls to the cellar with a 3-9-1 record. He was
also a cellar dwellar in 1994.
Mosakowski Lands a Money Slot
Mosakowski has climbed back to fourth thanks to a 36-17 win over Stroupe.
Stroupe briefly held fourth place before doing a quick fade to land in
eighth place. Brett Favre threw for TDs to stake his claim as a possible
BRFL MVP, as truly MOS would not be where he is without him. This will be the
third time Stroupe will play in the 8/9 game and the second time he will play
Czupryna.
JK's "Forgotten Men" Lead Win over Barry
A couple guys that JK was counting on in September finally came through in
November. Jeff Blake tossed 4 TDs and Eric Metcalf scored twice. JK had been
getting by with various "flavor of the week" pickups. The result was a 53-46
win, a score that might send a few chills down the spines of J and K.
That was the score of the 1994 week 14 comeback win by Talbot. That's right,
Talbot - who comes calling in week 14 once again.
Gates Knocks Talbot out of the Money 37-35
Talbot's quest for a third place finish went down to the wire, but he was
denied when Dan Marino failed to find OJ McDuffie in the endzone on the final
drive Monday night. Gates will play Barry in week 14, a refreshing change from
three years of Wallace.
Best Takes Third, Ends Wallace Streak at 8
Best takes third thanks to a close 48-38 win over Wallace. Wallace has his
chances with Jerome Bettis inside the 5, twice, but Pittsburgh opted for trickery
with Tim Lester and Kordell Stewart getting the scores. Best won despite having
his QBs shut out, but received 13 points each from the steady pair of Terrell
Davis and Tony Martin. Wallace had won eight straight, his longest career
win streak, but lost to his usual nemesis in Best who has won five of the last
six vs Wallace.
