Lord, when it becomes time for me to shed my earthly body, I ask You to grant that it not be an ending, but a new beginning. Not only the beginning of my eternal life with You, but the beginning of hope, health, and happiness for others.
I wish to give to mankind, the organs and earthly body that You molded into Your own work of art that once housed my soul. It is my final gift to humanity, Lord. Please use it for others as You see fit. Rush me to the surgeon's table and guide his hands that he will choose wisely and extract carefully any organs or tissues that might enhance or save the lives of others.
Take my eyes and give them to someone who has never known the joy of gazing into their loved ones eyes, or seen the magnificence of a sunset or a rose. Take my kidneys and use one to extend a dear mother's life, so she will live to see her daughter attend her first prom. Give the other to a father, that he will be granted the privilege of raising his children in a way pleasing unto You.
Take my lungs and grant the breath of life to a soon-to-be grandparent, so that they may know the joy of holding their grandchild in their arms. Gather every bit of skin and use it to cover the weeping flesh of a little boy's burns, so that he may once again wrap his arms around his puppy's neck.
My heart? Is it getting to old to function in another body as its' pumphouse? Then reach Your mighty hand within and gather my love for humankind and give it to someone who has become cynical and embittered towards others. Reach in and gather the love and compassion that I have always felt for the elderly, and for the poor and down-trodden, and give it where it will touch the very most lives.
Reach in for my trust and adoration of You and give it to someone who is having an especially difficult time accepting You as their Savior. And finally, reach in and gather all the awesome joy in my heart and let it rain down as far and wide as it will reach, so that others may share in the joy I feel as I have walked through life amongst Your magnificent creations in nature.
Now, one last request, Lord. Please wrap Your Arms around my friends and loved ones, and comfort and reassure them that I shall live on and on in all of those who received a part of me, and in all the people whose lives are touched by them.
