There exists at least one line of Forbushes that descended from a lone Daniel Forbush who had been illiterate and therefore had no idea of the great efforts the bureaucrats of time had made in trying to spell the name Forbes pronounced with the Scottish brough. Although the Forbes name has a wonderful history associated with it, the Forbush name has come to acquire a history of its own. In the short 350 year existence of the name Forbush several distinguished Forbushes have made their mark on the history of the United States of America.

Read the story of how Daniel Forbes became Daniel Forbush.

This is the same story of how William Forbes became William Furbush.

One of Daniel's sons, Deacon Thomas Forbush distinguished himself in early Colonial America by being a town leader and pastor in the town of Westboro.

Daniel's Grandson David was an Orderly Sergeant at the Battle of North Bridge (the Concord part of the Battle of Lexington and Concord) which opened the Revolutionary War with England in 1775. David was so close to the action he was splattered with the blood of Captain Isaac Davis.

There is the famous ornithologist Edward Howe Forbush who wrote "A Natural History of the Birds of Eastern and Central North America" Mifflin, 1939 among other works.

Even a physical phenomona bears the Forbush name.

Forbush Decrease :
The observed decrease in cosmic ray activity in the earth's atmosphere about a day after a solar flare. The Forbush decrease is believed to be caused by a shielding effect of the magnetic fields contained in the plasma cloud emitted from the sun at the time of the flare.

Although I am a physicist, I am not aware of the Forbush responsible for the Forbush Decrease. If anyone knows please send me e-mail.

There is also William Byron Forbush who edited the 14th Century Book of Martyrs: A History Of The Lives, Sufferings And Triumphant Deaths Of The Early Christian And Protestant Martyrs originally written by John Fox.

Jan Brown has compiled a text of the lineage in Fredrick Pierce's Book: (click here)
