The Kona Hawaii Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The year 2000 marks 150 years of the Church in Hawaii, and the dedication of the second temple on the islands is a great way to begin the celebration, which is the seventieth temple of the church. Anyone who has heard a Hawaiian congregation respond to an "Aloha" with their own hearty "Aloha" cannot doubt the enthusiasm of the Hawaiian saints. They are exceptionally strong spiritually, some wards have 70% recomend holders among their endowed members, and the new Temple has given them the oportunity to use their recomends even more frequently.

The temple was announced on 7 May 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 13 March 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 23-24 January 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 8,659 square foot temple.
The spire is 79 feet tall.
The Kona Temple serves part of the Hawaii Honolulu Mission and the Hilo, Kahului and Kona Hawaii stakes on the "Big Island" of Hawaii, and the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai in Hawaii.
