The Melbourne Australia Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Three types of people originally populated the Australian states of Victoria and Tasmania: criminals sent to penal colonies to start a new life, ranchers searching for better pastures, or prospectors searching for gold. Since those early days these states have seen many new immigrants from every type of background. But the memory of the first settlers in the area is still strong. Now there is a new member of the community, and those searching for truth and happiness can find it in the new temple.

The temple was announced on 30 October 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 20 March 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 16 June 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,800 square foot temple.
The spire is 75 feet tall.
The Melbourne Temple serves stakes and districts in most of Victora and Tasmania.
