The Portland Oregon Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Portland Temple has six spires, but is dramatically different from the Boise style temples. It is much larger, the spires are attached to the building and there is an annex similar to the one on the Washington Temple. The grounds were left heavily wooded, and the spires are decorated to suggest the large trees surrounding the temple.

The temple was announced on 7 April 1984.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 20 September 1986.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 19-21 August 1989.
There are 4 Sealing rooms and 4 Ordinance rooms in the 65,000 square foot temple.
The tallest (east center) spire is 169 feet tall.
The Portland Temple serves stakes in most of Oregon, parts of Washington and northern California.
