The temple was announced on 7 April 1984.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 27 February 1988.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 25-30 April 1993.
There are 8 Sealing rooms and 4 Ordinance rooms in the 70,000 square foot temple.
The two major towers are 200 feet tall.
The San Diego Temple serves stakes in parts of southern California and northwestern Mexico.
