The Toronto Ontario Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Toronto Temple has a single spire and a layout similar to the Atlanta Temple, only much larger. With the Toronto Temple's dedication, Canada became the first country outside the United States to have a second temple. The Toronto Temple was the first temple dedicated in the Nineties. As the Church entered this decade, the frantic pace of temple building that characterized the Eighties began to slow. The Church dedicated 25 temples in the Eighties, nearly half the total number of temples operating today.

The temple was announced April 1984.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 10 October 1987.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 25-27 August 1990.
There are 6 Sealing rooms and 4 Ordinance rooms in the 56,000 square foot temple.
The spire is 116 feet tall.
The Toronto Temple serves stakes in northeastern Canada, and parts of Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine and Vermont.
