The San Jose Costa Rica Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Costa Rica is a small, mountainous country not far from the Isthmus of Panama, the narrowest part of Central America. From a special place near the summit of mount Poas, about an hour from San Jose, you can, on a clear day, see both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Now, after the dedication of the San Jose Temple, Church members can clearly see both sides of the veil from another special spot, inside the temple.

The temple was announced on 17 March 1999.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 24 April 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 4 June 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,800 square foot temple.
The spire is 75 feet tall.
The San Jose Temple serves stakes in Costa Rica and Panama.
