The Fukuoka Japan Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Land in Japan is a precious commodity. A lot of similar size to a typical American suburban house lot can cost around one million dollars. Because of the high cost of real estate the Church tries to get the most possible use out of each parcel. For example, the Fukuoka Temple is a standard small temple, exactly like all of the other small temples, except that it is built on a hillside. From near the top of the hill the temple looks just like any other, however, underneath it, and accessible from the base of the hill, the Church has built a mission home, mission offices and an apartment for the Temple President and his wife.

The temple was announced on 7 May 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 20 March 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 11 June 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,800 square foot temple.
The spire is 75 feet tall.
The Fukuoka Temple serves stakes in southern Japan.
