The Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

A local newspaper article written by a non-member described the Santo Domingo Temple as a "door to heaven", how true that is. The Santo Domingo Temple is a full sized temple, and a large one at that, of the temples in Latin America only the Mexico City temple is larger. Which is amazing considering that the first convert baptisms in the Dominican Republic took place in 1978. Now there are 80,000 members in the temple district, all of whom now have the opportunity to enter this door to heaven.

The temple was announced on 16 November 1993.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 18 August 1996.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 17 September 2000.
There are 4 Sealing rooms and 4 Ordinance rooms in the 65,000 square foot temple.
The spire is ? feet tall.
The Santo Domingo Temple serves stakes in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and branches on other Carribean Islands.
