The Vernal Utah Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Vernal Temple was the first existing structure to be rebuilt into a temple. The Uintah Stake Tabernacle was originally dedicated in 1907, and was starting to fall into disrepair. Since the Church no longer needed a tabernacle in the area, they decided to rebuild it into a temple. This fulfilled prophecies made at the tabernacle dedication that there would someday be a temple built nearby. Since the buildings only tower was on the west side, a new tower, topped with a statue of the angel Moroni, was added to the east, making this the third temple with two towers (along with Logan and Manti).

The temple was announced in February 1994.
Ground was broken and construction begun in August 1995.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 2-4 November 1997.
There are 3 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 37,00 square foot temple.
The spire is 97 feet tall.
The Vernal Temple serves stakes in east central Utah, parts of Wyoming, and western Colorado.
