agreed with nearly every opion you expressed.
Now for those few I didn't. First my
qualifications- I have followed boxing all my
life and have seen movies or videos of those
fights from days long past. Next, I'm a
physician (MD) Internal Medicine and
Emergency medicine so I've seen trauma and
I know the physiology of a human being. Now
my thoughts. Dempsey would have been
mush at Marciano's hands. Why? First
Dempsey is of an era gone by. His power
was devasting but only for his time. Ali would
have beaten him. Marciano trained more
scientifically, more rigorously and actually
more uniquely than any fighter before or since.
Depsey would not have hurt him. So brawler
or swarmer vs swarmer-Maricano would have
beaten Dempsey by a significant margin. I'd
say KO round 7. Next Lewis was great He
was the first of today's modern boxers. But in
his prime he would have gone to Maricano
inside and it would have taken Marciano one
shot to knock him outmaybe even the first
round. After Lewis woke up he'd realize he had
made a mistake in tactics. A rematch would
would change Lewis's tactics but his inability
to hurt Rocky would have worn him down and
iit would be over in 6. Lewis lasted so long at
their real match becasue he was afraid of
Rocky and consciencly avoid him. The only
fighter to I'd like to see in a dream match
wouyld be Ali/Marciano. I've seen the computer
version but the real version would be better.
And you are correct Ali had the most trouble
with Frazier. But Frazier is not Marciano. Let
us say first dream fight Marciano/Frazier. The
winner of that goes on to fight Ali. My opinion,
Marciano KO's Frazier in the 9th and never
was hurting. Then Marciano Ali I see Ali
winning the first 6 rounds but eventually body
blows slow him down and then again, one
shot and Ali's history.

I was fortunate to see most Rocky's fights. I don't believe there has ever been a fighter who could take a punch like Rocky or could hit as hard. In the second fight with Walcott, the Boston Globe showed a picture of the upper cut he caught Walcott with,
t showed the tips of Walcott's shoes 6" off the canvas. With Ezzard Charles, he broke blood vessels when he punched him in the arms. To have someone bear down on you who could hit so hard and take a punch like he could is tough to beat.(or even last with)

s, Ali and Dempsey. Next come Jack Johnson tied with Sam Langford, Rocky Marciano and Larry Holmes. It gets tougher after that. It would include Tunney,Foreman and perhaps Jeffries. Would also consider Frazier, Walcotte Charles, and Joe Jeanette. After th
would be hounerable mentions such as the over-rated (at least I think so) Sonny Liston. Modern fighter like Tyson, Lewis and Holifield do not make my top 10 or even 15 list. Perhaps top 20. That honour would go to Holyfield.

im early and often enough. I doubt he could get a decision to a prime Ali who was very fast and hard to score on. Ali would just pile up the points and earn the 15 round decision. Ali was a master of the championship rounds. That is 11th to 15th. I realiz
that Marciano seemed to dominate those rounds as well. AN Ali/Marciano fight would be a classic indeed. Too close to call. Foreman would whip him though (yet lose to Ali). I'll end hear since I've probably gone on way too long anyways.
Only classic boxers like Ali and Louis can beat the likes of Foreman. Also awkward and crafty fighters like Jimmy Young and even Gregorio Peralta can give power sluggers like Formeman hck in the ring. Sqatters and sluggers like Frazier and Marciano are to
succeptable to the uper-cuts and right crosses.

By the way Don Cockell was a natural cruser weight. Glandular troubles caused weight gain and therefore had to fight above his natural weight. A tribute to his ability that he was able to go so far. Would have been the best cruser weight of all time.

I think over all that Rocky Marciano was the best fighter of all time as he refused to believe that he could be beaten. My favorite boxer to watch is Iron Mike Tyson though as he is so aggressive and fierce. Fights against people like Trevor Berbick and

Love your site. Although I feel that Marciano was one of the most durable and conditioned heavyweights, I don't think he would have retired undefeated if not for the opposition of his era--of course, that's not a knock on him. Tyson benefited from the s
me fortune. (Please forgive me there is no comparison between Tyson and Marciano; Marciano was a fighter: Tyson, oh well, an exposed bully). However, I think, despite all of his courage, Marciano would have not faired well against the likes of a young Lou

I have to disagree with you saying the rock would've handled Tyson. The prime tyson(early 20's, not the one who faced holyfield) would have handled the rock. The young tyson had heart and was ferocious. Tyson weighed around 218 compared to the heaviest m
rciano has 30 pounds on him. Tyson also had better defence, harder punches, quicker hands, and while marciano's stamina was better, Tyson's was suffice. Tyson would've handled the rock easily. There is only so much a body can take before it says no mor
, and I think that's what would happen to marciano.
Besides that, the only people I could see Marciano taking on your list of greats would be dempsey, holmes, and bowe. The others were in a different class than marciano.
I do like marciano though, never has a boxer made so much of his abilties.

Good websight. I basically agree with you on your assessment on Marciano vs. other great champions. I think his most dangerous opponents would be Dempsey and Louis possibly Liston(a very underrated fighter). Louis would be very dangerous but I've seen hi
swarmed on by fighters like Braddock.Haven't seen that much of Dempsey but his quickness and explosiveness would e troublesome early on. But if Marciano survives the early rounds I think his conditioning takes over. Ali would be a very tough fi
