Although I suspect he may be the son of Joseph Martin and Ann Smith
Occupation: Part owner of MARTIN, John, & Sons, Plumbers, Gas and Steam Fitters, Machinists, and Dealers in all kinds of Machinery. Also, American Home Light Oil and Gasoline for gas machines. His sons Joseph and George Henderson Martin, were also plumbers in the family business.
Married: An extract from the entry in an Old Parochial Register states that he married Ruth CUMMING on the 21 of April 1848 ,in the Parish of Canongate and the Proclamation reads as follows:
Martin John, Glazier, N271 Canongate, and Ruth Cumming,, Laidlaws Lodgings in the same Stair, daughter of John CUMMING, miner, Canal Street Perth, gave up their names for Proclamation of Marriage Certified by Mr. John Christie, one of the Elders of this Parish. The above named Parties were thru time regularly Proclaimed in the Parish Church on Sabbath the 16th and no objections being offered they were Married on the 21st Current by the Rev James McLetchie, one of the Ministers of the High Church Parish Edinburgh.

5. William MARTIN 28 mar 1856 Montreal Quebec Canada died before 1956. His whereabouts, marriage and date of death is unknown. It is believed he was in Chicago Illinois in 1908.
6. Robert Mitchell MARTIN b. 13 jan 1858 Montreal Quebec Canada died 29 nov 1900 in CUBA. It is not know if he was married.
7. George Henderson MARTIN b. 10 apr 1859 Montreal Quebec Canada. died 30 mar 1939 Montreal Quebec Canada. married 22 mar 1883 Mary Ann McRAE
8. Jane C. MARTIN b. 17 april 1861 Montreal Quebec. Died 25 march 1864 Montreal Quebec. I believe Jane was named after her mother, Ruth Cumming's sister, Jane.
9. Thomas C. MARTIN b. 23 oct 1863 Montreal Quebec Canada died 18 sept 1864 Montreal Quebec. I believe he was named after Ruth Cumming's brother, Thomas.
