What's New on the All About Amite County Mississippi Web Page?

Happy Holidays!

I've been focusing on genealogy lately and have revamped and updated all the information on my main Genealogy Page, my Amite County Genealogy Page, my Assumption Parish Louisiana and Bayou Lafourche Basin Web Pages. Specifically, I've updated the Outline Genealogy Pages for most of my families, including my Amite County ancestors. These updates are already visible from these webpages. I've increased my GEDCOM files from 2989 individuals to over 7300 individuals and I hope to have a new GEDCOM file up by the end of January 2000. My genealogy page, especially, has a new look with graphics I designed myself.

I hope that this website has continued to link information to individuals interested in Amite County; I certainly get lots of e-mail asking questions about that corner of Mississippi. While I live nearly 500 miles away, I'm always willing to try provide any answers I can.

In the wake of comedian Jerry Clower's death, I've put up a page featuring a short obituary of the Liberty, MS native with links to other websites.

Hi there folks! Thanks for stopping by. The past several weeks have been busy and I've not had as much time for online stuff: I finished a second masters degree--this time, in Library & Information Science from UT Austin--and I got married to a wonderful guy! If you are at all interested, check out the Wichita Falls, TX newspaper announcement and some photographs from the WEDDING.

Hello friends! This is to announce that after searching in vain for a webring that most exactly fit my webpage topics, I began my own web ring--the Southwestern Mississippi & Eastern Louisiana Genealogy & History Web Ring, (SWMSELA) to be exact. Take a look at the SWMSELA Web Ring Home Page to see what's going on. If you have a website that even remotely qualifies, please consider joining. If you haven't yet gotten up on the web, let others know so they too can get involved. The SWMSELA webring graphic is located near the bottom of the All About Amite website. I hope you can stop by!  JMP.

Once again, I'm trying out a new feature--this time in the form of the Geocities Add-A-Link. By clicking on Add-A-Link websurfers can type in the URL and a description of their favorite website related to Amite County or SW Mississippi genealogy and/or history. I had been wanting to include a page of links to other peoples' websites on Amite-related topics and this seems like the easiest way of going about it. This new Add-A-Link feature and its companion, the Add-A-Link
VIEWER, are located near the bottom of the All About Amite website.  PLEASE ADD A LINK!!!  JMP.

I've added an automatic e-mailer that will allow me to more efficiently let people know when the All About Amite website is updated.  If you are interested in receiving this kind of announcement, I invite you to sign-in with this new feature--located near the bottom of the All About Amite website.  Hope this is useful!  JMP.

This is me outside the Amite County Courthouse last summer.

I gave myself a scanner for a graduation present and have begun scanning the photocopies of the 120+ estate files in my possession as well as the rosters of several Confederate companies and a number of photographs of turn-of-the-century Amite County that most people probably have not seen.
The wills of the fifteen married women listed in Will Books I & II have been scanned and uploaded onto this site as well as the files of a few other individuals.  My goal in the next few months is to get scanned images of everything I have so that others may benefit--copies are rather expensive at the Amite County Courthouse (25c+ per copy) and many cannot make the trip.

New Additions:

AMITE COUNTY IN THE CIVIL WAR

Rosters from several military units from the Amite County and surrounding area.

Extracts from the minute book of the Amite County chapter of the United Confederate Veterans (UCV) including:  1) a copy of the condolence letter sent to Varina Howell Davis in 1889 after the death of Jefferson Davis, and 2) the names, regiments, ranks, and residences of the members of the UCV as of 1890.

Group photo taken of the members of the Amite County UCV chapter c. 1900 (no names)

LOST AMITE COUNTY

Scanned images of Liberty & environs from the turn-of-the-century.

 AMITE COUNTY WILLS PROJECT

This is an effort to duplicate the wills and inventories of early Amite County and digitize the images so that historians and genealogists can access them easily via the World Wide Web.
