To create and execute (a plan for) a comprehensive, GeoCities-wide awards/recognition program for homesteaders (the GeoAwards Program).
As a key component of this, we are starting with the Outta Site Awards, which will encompass all the hoods. The program will have the same structure and criteria throughout the hoods. The unique aspect of this program is that monthly winners will receive their neighborhood-level award and award image. Yosemite community leaders selected "Yosemite Pride".
Yosemite can have more than one monthly "Pride" winner.
Monthly "Pride" winners will be placed in a pool to decide which will receive the "Yosemite" Outta Site Award.
The monthly "Yoosa" winner then competes with the other neighborhood winners for the monthly "GOOSA".
BACK
The Yosemite Pride Award was created to award Yosemite homesteaders that have wonderful webpages, meet Y!Geocities guidelines, use Geoguides on every page, Fit the theme of Yosemite, and be a site dedicated to something that other people can use.
This program is fairly simple. Sites are nominated by CLs or homesteaders. Then the CLs rate each site for their merit using the selected criteria below.
The first and most important criteria is that the entire site is strictly within the GeoCities Content Guidelines. The site should must have the Geoguide on every page. Homesteaders' sites will be reviewed and all awards will be given out contingent upon the following criteria:
- Does it belong in the hood it's in? How well does it fit in?
The site must fit the theme of the Yosemite neighborhood. The theme in this neighborhood is Outdoor Recreation and the Great Outdoors.
- Is there imaginative use of programming e.g., Java, JavaScript, DHTML, great HTML, multimedia components, etc.?
- Is the site error free? (spelling, general grammar and broken links or images)
- Does the site have unique content? The site must have some use to other people. In other words it can't be a site exclusively about your friends, or family. You need a site dedicated to something that other people can use.
- How well designed is the site and its usage of graphics?
If the site has a "what's new" section then it must be updated at least once every month.
- Is the user interface intuitive and simple?
- Is the visitor invited to participate with the content on the site?
(games, contests, stories, educational value, etc.)
This award will fall under the GeoAwards Program and follow
the same structure and criteria across all hoods. The one distinction will be the unique name of the award for and chosen by each hood. There will be an Awards Information Area in each hood as well as the main awards page, where homesteaders and visitors can go to find out all about the program and, from there, the winners will promoted. These are some suggestions for the promotion:
1) Winners will be showcased in their neighborhood's Awards Info Page.
2) There will be links to the neighborhoods' Awards Info Pages on the main GeoAwards page.
3) Annual winners will be showcased on GeoCities (on the main neighborhood page, on the GeoCities Awards Info Page, etc.)?
1) Sites nominated will be reviewed monthly by the CLs of that hood.
Sites that did not have an ample amount of CLs voting on it will be held back for consideration in future months. This "ample amount" will depend on the amount of CLs in each hood and the Awards Chair will be responsible for making the final call to submit or not.
2) CLs will score each page based on the criteria outlined in the Criteria section. For each of those components, a score will be given (e.g., 1-10, 10 being best) and a total will be determined and from that a scale will be used to judge whether or not a site deserves the award. All scores above 50 are passing and will receive the award. Note: All CLs are eligible to vote.
3) The Awards Chair will award pages that have been amply reviewed and received a passing score in their hoods monthly ("Pride") award and update the neighborhood award page.
Note that sites in the former-Featured Page Program will all be reviewed and automatically made eligible for this award, first and foremost. These lists will be distributed to the appropriate Awards Chair to review. After this, the following forms of nomination will be considered, in order of priority:
1) Community Leader Nomination - Community Leaders will be able to nominate sites to the Awards Chair using a form that will be set up by the Awards Chair of each hood.
2) Non-CL Nomination - Homesteaders and visitors will be able to nominate sites to the Awards Chair using a form that will be set up by the Awards Chair of each hood.
Each site will only be able to be nominated once to the Awards Chair through the form on the site. Nominations will also be tracked to see who submitted them.
They will be responsible for processing all the nominations and making sure to meet their nomination goals each week. Once the Awards Chair has fulfilled the required amount of sites to vote on, from all the
applications they receive, they should award all of the awards and update their awards page.
2) The Community Leaders - The CLs within each hood will be responsible, but not required to review and vote on all the nominations.
