Memorable
quotes:
1)McMurphy:
Well, that fuckin' Nurse man...She, uh, she ain't honest. Dr.
Spivey: Aw now, look. Miss Ratched's one of the finest nurses we've got
in this institution. McMurphy: Ha! Well I don't wanna
break up the meeting or nothin', but she's somethin' of a cunt, ain't she Doc?
2)McMurphy:
You're not an idiot. Huh! You're not a goddamn looney now, boy. You're a fisherman!
3)McMurphy:
You're just a young kid. What are you doin' here? You oughta be out in a convertible,
why...bird-doggin' chicks and bangin' beaver. What are ya doin' here, for Christ's
sake? What's funny about that? Jesus, I mean, you guys do nothin' but complain
about how you can't stand it in this place here and then you haven't got the guts
just to walk out!
4)McMurphy:
You fooled 'em, Chief! You fooled 'em. You fooled 'em all. Goddamn. What are we
doin' here Chief? Huh? What's us two guys doin' in this fuckin' place? Let's get
out of here. Out! Chief: Canada. McMurphy:
Canada. I'll be there before these son-of-a-bitches know what hit 'em.
Listen to Randall on this one.
5)Nurse
Ratched: Aren't you ashamed? Billy: (without
stuttering) No, I'm not. (More applause) Nurse: You
know Billy, what worries me is how your mother's going to take this.
Review:One
Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest was based on Ken Kesey's novel and was magnificently
directed by Czech director Milos Forman (Amadeus,
The People vs. Larry Flynt). The film is not
really about insanity as much as it is about disrupting “the system”. Nicholson
(The Shining, As Good
as It Gets, The Last Detail, Five
Easy Pieces) was perfectly cast, playing a state prisoner who pretends
that he is crazy to get out of work camp. Many of Nicholson's best roles involve
his character rebelling against society and authority and I believe it is his
performance in Cuckoos Nest that defines his incredible career. One
Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was only the second film ever to sweep the five
most important Academy Awards. The film won Best Picture, Best Actor (Nicholson),
Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), Best Director (Forman), and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Review:McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) is far from being crazy, but is a social misfit
in the eyes of the “intelligent” psychiatrist and is committed in a mental ward.
Back in the 60’s they were using brutal procedures in trying to cure patients,
like electric shock therapy and lobotomies. Ken Kessay, the author of the book
this movie was based on, used to work in a psychiatric ward and viewed first hand
the horrors of “modern medicine.” This movie hits both sides of the spectrum,
tragic and comic. -Reviewed by Mark Caldwell
