Welcome to 'The Brainmans'
Old Boat Page
This is An Antique Steam Powered Launch
I acquired this 46" model (the beam is 10-1/2") at an auction.
The boiler & burner were both there but no engine.
The trim has separated & there are a few minor cracks in the hull along with some paint spatter.  I'm told the boat dates to the early 1900's (1915-1920's) !!
You can click on some of the pictures see my progress...just click 'Back' to return to this page .
The bottom view of the boiler shows the water tubes are soft soldered. This may require some work  to hard solder them because all of the soft solder will have to be removed. The boiler needs a safety valve, sight glass, steam whistle & valve along with other steam fittings. I made a gasket for the burner & it works however there is no provision to easily control the flame size which could easily ROAR to over  9 inches long!!
In the above views you can see the current condition  & location of the  boiler and burner. Nothing is as yet fastened down.
The steam engine I have started on is a 2 cylinder double acting reverseable  wobbler type from the Elmers Enines book I recently acquired. I plan to  mount it in front of the boiler and I'm sure this engine will provide sufficient power for a launch this size !
