This map is temporarily "borrowed" from the Midwinter Site

To make it easier to find ones way around the station, the interior of the station is divided into color-coded ring shaped sections ,which are in turn broken down into sectors and levels. Each sector consists of between 30 to 70 levels.

The system works in the following manner. First a color, denoting the sector number, and a letter denoting level, hence the main corridor passes through "Blue 15 " for example, lower numbers are closer to the central axis.

In addition there are several other designated areas, some officially ,such as the Garden and Zocalo, and some not, such as Dockside, DownBelow and Topside.

Zero-Gravity (0g) Cargo Bays, Docking, Engineering, Defense Systems.

At the front of the station is the Zero-gravity Docking Bay entrance. Two docking "horns" frame the bay, known as Forward Cargo Stabilizers, which help to guide and stabilize the bulk freighters.

The "front" of the station consists of two docking bays, the first allowing small craft to enter along the 0g centerline, and be transferred to the appropriate bay, and the second dedicated to craft remaining in freefall. The forward section also contains the cobra bays for the fighters which form part of the stations' defenses; a complement of Starfury fighters augmented by a station based low-level defense grid mounted on the outer hull consisting of several weapon types, including the latest pulse cannons.

- Earharts -
The Officers' Club on Babylon 5, a circular building accessed from red section set upon a stem in the Garden, of which it provides a panoramic view. [RETURN]

Located in green sector, the Garden forms the largest section of Babylon 5. Its main purpose is to provide food and oxygen reclamation for the station.

It is a large botanical area that is the absolute centre of the station. It has a sort of hollow-world look, with fields and hydroponic gardens along the 360 degree circular section, the vegetative area of which covers 12 square miles. An observer can look straight up to the other side of the rotating section which is of sufficient size for weather to occur.

Lining the circular walls are some farmlands, orchards, an open air hedge maze, fields, trees, artificial lakes, hydroponic gardens and other areas for oxygen reclamation, with more developments being added over time, including sports areas. Beneath the garden is 20m of soil then levels of hydrobays, support systems, storage units and various chemical processing facilities, ultimately ending in Grey section.

- The Maze -

A section of the Garden containing a labyrinth of bushes, making it ideal for clandestine meetings, a purpose used by Londo Mollari and Mr. Morden on occasion.

- Japanese Stone Garden -
A small enclosed area within the main garden, frequently visited by Ambassador Delenn. Made of sand with several stones embedded and wave-like markings on the sand interrupted by circular patterns from the stones. This is very much a place of meditation. (also known as a Zen Garden)

- Hanging Garden -
An area running the length of Red Section named for varying sized spheres of soil suspended from the "ceiling" on thick chains in which various phosphorescent plants are cultivated. It has a methane-ammonia atmosphere and is also the location of the Dilgar War Memorial.

A memorial to those who died in the Dilgar War located mid-way along the cylinder of the Hanging Garden.

- Babylon Park -
A large section of Babylon 5's Garden that includes a baseball pitch regularly used by John Sheridan.

- BabCom -babcom logo
Babylon 5's internal communications network constructed by Galactel Matrix for both in-station and ship-to-station communication, that carries over a thousand communications and educational channels and also has links into StellarCom.

BabCom monitors display the Babylon 5 logo  when not in use, or switches to the StellarCom logo for incoming transmissions.

- StellarCom -stellarcom logo
Babylon 5's external communications network linked into BabCom which uses tachyons to give almost instantaneous communications over stellar distances.

- ComLink -
ComLinks - normally called links - are the personal, voice only, communication devices used by Earth Alliance personnel, generally worn affixed to the back of the hand by a pad that bonds to the skin at a molecular level.

The ComLinks link into the central computer, from where they can connect to other links, the PA system or request data from from the computer database.

Links are individually coded to prevent unauthorized use and allow their location to be traced whenever they are used, making their theft pointless.

[RETURN]

- Transport Tubes -
The normal means of transport through the various levels of the station are the transport tubes, which move vertically from level to level. Some tubes offer transport horizontally. These tubes are voice operated.

- Core Shuttle -
A public monorail system that runs the length of the Babylon 5 Garden, just off the center of the core where gravity is minimal, providing rapid transit from one end of the station to the other. There are 13 stops along the way. The core shuttle runs every 5 minutes.

- Casinos -
The section of Babylon 5 devoted to gambling, which is also Ambassador Londo Mollari's favorite part of the station.

- Cobra Arm -
Each of four sections of Babylon 5 from which Starfury fighters are launched, named for their cobra-like shape.

- Dockside -
The name given to the cargo handling areas and docking bay section of Babylon 5, which is crewed by around 1,500 guild dock workers. This area is strictly off-limits to unauthorized personnel.

- DownBelow -
The "underside" section of Babylon 5, as opposed to Topside, where the lurkers try to survive. The lurkers are Babylon 5's equivalent of the homeless. Conditions are primitive and the crime rate is rather high.

- Downtown -
Strictly speaking there is no such name, but it was a term used by John Sheridan to refer to the water and waste reclamation areas located on decks 49-51 of blue section and grey section that is considered to be the most unpleasant part of the station except for the methane toilets and is full of machinery, lead walls and piping.

Derek Cranston was misdirected here in his search for the fugitive Dr. Everett Jacobs and, since the area had been sealed off when the station became operational, had to burn through 49 pressure doors to get to the area only to find an unpleasant smell.

- Observation Dome -
[Command and Control (C&C)]

An alternate name for the Command and Control (C&C) section on Babylon 5, named for the large circular window looking out onto the approach vector for the station's docking bays, or Dockside.

It is located about a third of the way along the station radius (giving a gravity of about 0.3g) where the routing of ships is handled. The area includes numerous terminals for environment, jump gate/navigational assistance, security and so on, all of which go on standby for routine maintenance every 36-48 hours or so for cleaning, backups and so on.

As this is the nerve centre of Babylon 5, civilians are prohibited from entering the Observation Dome without the express permission of the station's commander.

The official name for Michael Garibaldi's office on Babylon 5, later the office of Security Chief Zack Allen.

- Ombuds Courtroom -
The courtroom on Babylon 5 used by the Ombuds to try criminals and others facing charges for infringement of the law on Babylon 5.

- Rotunda -
A large open section of the Babylon 5, often used for large gatherings, religious meetings, formal parties and so on.

- Sanctuary, The -
An public observation dome located in Blue 3 at the front of Babylon 5 used for meetings and occasionally receptions for VIPs, as was the case when the Centauri Emperor, Turhan, came aboard the station.

- Showers -
Due to stringent water requirements, showers on Babylon 5 are of the sonic vibration type, with antibacterial lighting. Only a small handful of people have access to water showers - The commander of B5 and his senior staff, and the ambassadors.
