Mobilization Links
NOTE: Visit the pages devoted to the two major regional convergences for additional mobilization-related info:
G8 Activism - Contacts, links, lists, etc. - this site has the most thorough listing of events and planned actions. The starting point for all anti-G8 activists. Toronto: On Wed, June 26: People will converge in downtown Toronto at the corner of Yonge and Davenport (across from the CTV headquarters) and moving south on Yonge St. to the Liberal Party Headquarters (St.Mary St.). There will be music and speakers, and a possibility of joining the recently called NDP mobilization against Hydro Privatization in front of Queens' Park. Print up this Toronto anti-G8 Demo Poster and get the word out. Contact: Agitate the G8 Coalition; agitatetheg8@yahoo.com. Meetings at OISE, 252 Bloor St. W., #2-295 / Thursdays at 6pm.
Solidarity Village As of May 29, it appears that no space will be made available for Solidarity Village - thanks initially to the scheming of the RCMP (who appear to have used various dubious means to influence the Stoney Council to decide against leasing reservation land to protesters), and, later, to the ill-will of Mayor Bronconnier of Calgary (who dug up a municipal bylaw prohibiting political rallies in parks, and is using it to squelch public displays of political dissent). For more info, see: Update from the organizers of "Solidarity Village" against the G8 (28 May 2002); and G-8 protesters denied two city sites (May 29, 2002 / Calgary Herald). GLOBAL JUSTICE ACTION SUMMIT (GlobalJAS) - a 'counter-G8 summit' which will take place in Missoula Montana, June 20-23, 2002 Take the Capital! - Mobilization hub for the regional anti-G8 convergence in Ottawa on June 26-27. Visit the site for the callout, organizing principles, caravans, and more. See also this embryonic Activist Guide to Ottawa (April 25, 2002 / Ontario Indymedia), and the Ottawa section in this site for more info. Here are short audio callouts from 'Take the Capital Radio' in English and Spanish:

Kananaskis G8 Summit - a site created by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) with the goal of raising awareness of environmental conservation issues surrounding the Kananaskis area.
The upshot is basically this: so long as the government continues to allow logging and other corporate exploitation of Kananaskis country, it would be highly hypocritical to use environmental conservation as an excuse to circumscribe protests (i.e. how are corporations - which are invited to come in and hack down trees, etc. - better than environmentally-conscientious protesters?). Do make sure to consider filling in this letter of protest asking the Alberta government to respect its commitment to protect the Kananaskis wilderness area.
Also, regarding the environmental sensitivity argument, it should be kept in mind that the Evan Thomas Provincial Recreation Area accomodates over 1.4 million visitors per year, and on a good summer day, it is not uncommon to have over fifteen thousand visitors spread out among the many trails and other recreational opportunities in the area. There is nothing new, therefore, about having thousands of people in the area. The difference is simply that they will not be there as tourists, but as activists....

See: Urgence Manif - and make certain to look over the 'information for protesters' section, and, within that, particularly the subsections on tear gas and pepper spray. Learn what to do and what to bring well before so that you arrived prepared. Also, it appears to be virtually a certainty that Calgary will see a great deal of tear gas, so a gas mask purchase could be a very good idea.
