The Bailey Family Coat of Arms
The name Bailey was first found in
Northumberland where they had been seated from early times. They were
granted lands
by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished
assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD.
My first known Bailey ancestor, Thomas, came from Dunham in Cheshire and he
was a coachman.
He had at least two sons, John born in 1843 and Thomas born in 1848, who
both migrated to Ashton-under-Lyne.
Family of John born 1843
(my direct ancestor)

They married at St Michael and All Angels Church in Ashton-under-Lyne on the

the marriage were Thomas Bailey and Emma Ogden.
John was employed as a Coach Man.
Marriage Certificate of John and Elizabeth
John and Elizabeth had two children:
Harvey
who was born in 1867 and in 1881 was an apprentice book binder and printer.
Can find no later records regarding Harvey.

was born on the 5th July, 1873 at
81 Wellington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne.
