1st Cambridge is a very active group, which enjoy troop hikes, camps and pioneering projects among other things. Below are a few photo's and text about the latest of our activities.

100 Year Campfire 18 August 2007

To celebrate 100 years of scouting we decided to hold a campfire/tea for all the old members of the movement; be they parents, scouters or scouts themselves. As can be seen from the photos below we had a great turnout. The 1st pictures are just to show how the hall was decorated.

As with all birthdays, a speech had to be said and this fell upon Brett ofcourse (those that know him will understand why). And what scouting with out the bush, so we decided to bring it inside.

No really reason to explain this lot; campfire as usually with loads of crazy action songs.

Here I wish we had sound for you to hear this skit, and last we have Jason lighting the fire by flaming torch.

Brownsea Island Camp 3-5 August 2007

The Brownsea Island camp was run to celebrate the 100 years since the 1st camp was run by Baden Powell with some 20 boys. We ran the camp with the aim of doing some of the activites BP ran on the orginal camp: veldcraft, observation, chivlary, etc.

Dutch Oven Cooking

What would scouting be with out fire? and better yet with out food on the fire. Nothing tastes better than making your own roast chicken, bread, apple tart.... in pit fire, but that doesnt mean we have to leave our manners inside. A nice clean set table just finishes any meal.

Pioneering Display

Every get tired of hearing the question, what is scouting? Will we are, so we decided why not show the public. We set-up an hourglass tower and a monkey bridge along one of the main roads in East London.
It is important to note that we live in SOuth Africa and how could we be South African with out a tea break
