Learn From a Master of Colored Pencil
Gary Greene, with a casual and relaxed style of teaching,
creates an environment in his workshops that encourage artists of all
levels to discover the colored pencil while having fun.
Students are given valuable information about materials,
methods, and techniques, from the basics to exciting explorations, unique
to colored pencil art. They complete a variety of easy to understand
step-by-step studies, specifically designed stimulate the artist's
creative juices. Each study is demonstrated to the class, then reference
materials and notes are provided for each student to follow as they
complete the study on their own.
About the Workshops
Basic
Layering
Discover the exciting, creative, and versatile
medium of colored pencil. Learn about various types of colored pencils,
paper surfaces, related materials and tools. Participants will complete a
study using the layering technique taken from Gary's best selling book, Creating Textures
in Colored Pencil.
Realism with
Burnishing
Learn how to create realistic colored pencil
paintings using the three burnishing techniques. Participants will
complete a study using this exciting technique taken from Gary's best
selling book, Creating Textures
in Colored Pencil.
Textures with
Underpainting
Learn how to create realistic textures by
underpainting with water soluble colored pencils, or traditional wax (or
oil) based colored pencils and solvents, then overlaying dry colored
pencil. Participants will complete studies taken from Gary's best selling
book, Creating
Textures in Colored Pencil.
Painting Flowers with Colored
Pencil
Learn how to paint beautiful, realistic flowers using
various colored pencil techniques. Participants will complete a floral
study taken from Gary's book, Creating
Radiant Flowers in Colored Pencil.
Painting with Water Soluble Colored
Pencils
For the first time anywhere - a workshop dedicated
entirely to water soluble colored pencils. Discover their versatility with
techniques such as wet-on-dry, dry-on-wet, wet-on-wet, and much more! In
this two part workshop, learn about materials, tools, and techniques in
part one, then apply that information create a painting in part two. Based
on Gary's book, Painting with
Water Soluble Colored Pencils.
The Photo as Art
Reference
Participants learn how to take reference
photographs for their colored pencil (or any medium) art. After a brief
lecture, the class embarks on a field trip to shoot reference photos, then
returns to class for a critique of their images.

Workshops can be conducted
individually or grouped as a single course.
Rates are charged on
a per-student basis
