In relation to The Social Contract, Harry Potter pertains to the general and particular will, Voldemort is linked to the right of the strongest, the Order of the Phoenix is the Tribunate, Dumbledore is the lawgiver, Dumbledore’s Army associates with the Social Pact, the house elves are the slaves and the Ministry of Magic is the government.
Due to the corruption of the government, Voldemort eventually took over the Ministry of Magic using pure force. Voldemort's uprising caused fear in the people creating the general will to become the defeat of Voldemort. Both the general will of the people and the particular will of Harry coincided into a common goal of defeating Voldemort. Dumbledore’s Army and Order of the Phoenix also mixed in with the ultimate purpose for the destruction of Voldemort. Dumbledore’s Army united different houses of Hogwarts under a social pact so they could defend themselves and fight against Voldemort. The Order of the Phoenix acted as a Tribunate because they protected the people against Vodemort and his Death Eaters. On the other hand, in a metaphorical correlation to the bigger picture, Dumbledore as the lawgiver is strained since he is the lawgiver to Hogwarts, but not to the magical community. Another thing that is stressed is the house elves. Although they corresponded to Rousseau’s idea and contributed to the defeat of Voldemort, they did not play a significant part in a broader spectrum, being as they didn't have any major role in perspective to the magical world as a whole. Overall, most points were connected by the general will, which was to defeat Voldemort. Ultimately, this supports Rousseau’s idea that the general will is imperative in the dealings of society.
