Nahum

Chapter 1

1 The burden of Nineveh.

The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

{Note. See Zechariah 1.21. Assyria had its 'horn cut off' in 612 BC. The first horn cutter was Nabopolasser, the father of Nebuchadnezzar - a Chaldean who teamed up with the king of Media (Sigh - Axe- er - ees (sp)). Nineveh was the capital of Assyria.}

2 'El/God is zealous.

And Jehovah/God is punishing.

Jehovah/God is punishing
and is 'the ruler of indignation' {ba`al chemah}.

Jehovah/God in punishing on His adversaries,
and He reserves wrath for His enemies.

3 Jehovah/God is slow to anger . . .
and great in power . . .
and will not at all acquit the wicked.

Jehovah/God has His Way
in the whirlwind and in the storm,
and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

4 He rebukes the sea,
and makes it dry,
and dries up all the rivers.

Bashan languishes,
and Carmel,
and the flower of Lebanon languishes.

5 The mountains quake at Him,
and the hills melt,
and the earth is burned at His presence.

Yes . . . the world, and all who dwell therein.

6 Who can stand before His indignation?

And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger?

His fury is poured out like fire,
and the rocks are thrown down by Him.

7 Jehovah/God is good . . .
a strong hold in the day of trouble.

And he knows those who trust in Him.

8 But with an overrunning flood
He will make an utter end of the place thereof,
and darkness shall pursue His enemies.

9 What do you imagine against Jehovah/God?

He will make an utter end.

Affliction shall not rise up the second time.

10 For while they be folded together as thorns,
and while they are drunken as drunkards,
they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

11~~From you have advanced
one who plots evil against Jehovah/God . . .
  {against Jehovah/God}
a 'policy-makers of Belial' {b@liya`al ya`ats}.

{Note: Similar to how RBT calls very mature believers 'SuperGrace believers' he says Satan has those saturated with his evil polices and they are called here 'policy-makers of Belial' and elsewhere they are called SOB's - Sons of Belial'}.

12 Thus said Jehovah/God,
"Though they be quiet,
and likewise many,
yet thus shall they be cut down,
when he shall pass through.

Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more. 13

For now I will break his yoke from off you,
and will burst your bonds in sunder. 14

And Jehovah/God has given a commandment concerning you,
that no more of your name be sown.

Out of the house of your 'elohiym/gods
I will cut off the graven image and the molten image.

I will make your grave . . . for you are vile. 15

Behold upon the mountains . . .
the feet of him who brings good tidings . . .
  {idiom for a missionary}
who, causes to 'hear, listen and obey'
'inner peace'/prosperity {shalowm}!
  {shalowm is the Jewish greeting - like our greeting of 'have a good
  day' - it means peace or prosperity - like eirene in the Greek of
  the New Testament, we learn in spiritual terms, it means to have
  'inner peace' - to have a relaxed mental attitude from doctrine in
  the soul}

O Judah,
keep your solemn feasts,
perform your vows.

For the wicked shall no more pass through you.

He is utterly cut off."
