Bible Doctrine Study Guides Proverbs
Chapter
06
3
Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself,
4
Give not sleep to your eyes,
5
Deliver yourself as a roe/deer from the hand of the hunter,
6
Go to the ant, you sluggard . . .
7-8
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 9 How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
10
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber,
11
So shall your poverty come as one that travels,
12
A naughty person, a wicked man,
13
He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet,
14
Crookedness/distortedness is in his heart . . .
15
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly . . .
{Verses
16-19: The Only Octastich in Proverbs}
{1}
a proud look,
{2}
a lying tongue, and
{3}
hands that shed innocent blood
{4}
a 'right frontal lobe'/heart that devises wicked imaginations
{5}
feet that be swift in running to mischief
{6}
a false witness that speaks lies, and
{7}
he that sows discord among brethren. {Note: Syntactically, these verses show that in the Eyes of Jehovah/God, mental attitude sins are the worst to Him. And, as opposed to what our human viewpoint says, only one overt sin is HIGH on His list of the worst sins. Pride is first! And was Satan's first sin! There are 2 mental attitude sins, 4 sins of the tongue, and only 1 overt sin in the list of worst!}
20
My son, keep your father's commandment . . .
21
Bind them continually upon your heart,
22
When you go, it shall lead you . . .
23
For the commandment is a lamp;
24
To keep you from the evil woman,
25
Lust not after her beauty in your heart;
26
For by means of a whorish woman 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29
So he that goes in to his neighbor's wife;
30
Men do not despise a thief, He shall give all the substance of his house.
32
But whosoever commits adultery with a woman He that does it destroys his own soul.
33
A wound and dishonor shall he get . . .
34
For jealousy is the rage of a man . . .
35
He will not regard any ransom . . .
