 | elen Hunt was born in Culver City, California on the 15th of June 1963. With the arrival of Helen, Gordon Hunt, a director and acting coach, and wife Jane, a photographer, now had two daughters. Helen's family, along with older sister Colleen, moved to New York in 1966. They then moved back to California in 1972 to call L.A. their home. Culver City, California: Birthplace of Helen Hunt.

Helen won her first showbiz role portraying Sarah Sargeant in the 1973 made for T.V. movie "Pioneer Woman", and later played Jill Prentiss on the short lived series "Amy Prentiss" in 1974. In 1977 she played Bonnie Slaughter on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show". What followed was a series of television guest appearances on such shows as "The Bionic Woman", "The Facts of Life", "Knots Landing", "Gimme a Break", and many many others. Despite working constantly since she was a young child, her big break didn't come until 1991 when she was contacted by comedian Paul Reiser and asked if she would like to work on a series he was developing. That series was of course "Mad About You". The series ended in 1999 while still one of the most popular sitcoms on television. A note of interest, Helen directed the series finale. During the run of "Mad About You" Helen continued to work and landed numerous award winning movie roles including "Kiss of Death", "Twister", and "As Good As It Gets" for which she won an Oscar. Upcoming events for Helen include a movie with Tom Hanks called "Cast Away", and "She's Funny That Way", a comedy about an escapee from a psychiatric hospital. She married long time beau Hank Azaria, with whom she worked on "Mad About You" (he played Nat the dog walker), on the 17th of July 1999.  Helen and Hank: A Happy Couple.
