International
Volunteer Program
HHCN places international volunteers in residential service projects in Chitwan area. While volunteers lend their hand to improve the livelihood of Chitwan people, they are also exposed to Nepali culture and way of life at first-hand. Every year more than 100 international volunteers join HHCN programs and return home with ever lasting memories. To date, HHCN has received international volunteers from different parts of the world, including Canada, Japan, Singapore, UK and the United States. HHCN has received nothing but positive feedbacks for the work done by these volunteers. Here are some of the programs we offer:

Teaching English The
volunteer will teach English in a government-run primary school of 200-300
student population. English is part of general curriculum in Nepali
schools. The volunteer program lasts 2-5 months. The children range in age
from 6 to 12. The volunteer has the opportunity to design a curriculum
based on his/her experience as well as the children's skill level. There
are approximately 4 to 7 class periods everyday, with a break for lunch.
School is in session six days a week, from Sunday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4
p.m., except on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 PM. The volunteer is
encouraged to bring as many teaching materials as possible, including
books, flash cards, music/songs, and drawing materials.

This includes participating in vaccination programs alongside doctors, nurses and medical personnel. The volunteer will work with local health experts to plan and execute training on health issues that are important to the local community. Topics include hygiene, personal health care, etc. Beneficiaries of the training will be primary school students, mothers (pregnant and new mothers) and other villagers. The volunteer can also make workshops on basic personal hygiene for both children and adults, and instruct the villagers on the importance of good nutrition and how to achieve it. Take note that only students or professional persons in the field of medicine can apply to this program. These volunteers must send proof of their qualification.

Environmental and Agricultural Projects The volunteer will assist in designing, coordinating and implementing various projects to improve the physical landscape of the Chitwan area and, at the same time, to improve the lives of rural people. This program lasts approximately for three months. The volunteer will work in different communities. Each community has around 5 to 6 fields, which are used as vegetable fields, tree plantations, water sources, etc. The volunteer will spend two weeks working in each community. The volunteer can record basic data on crop production, land use, and reforestation activities. The volunteer may work on projects including reforestation, planting indigenous as well as imported species of plants and flowers. Ninety percent of the Nepalese population live off of agricultural activities. The local people do not have a great deal of knowledge about agriculture and the environment. Use of toxic products without realizing the impact causing on the environment is one of the prevalent problems in this area.

The volunteer will create a simple electronic database, enter the data, then make that data available both electronically and on paper to entities in Nepal and possibly abroad.
