The Aging Transmission System

These pictures show evidence of corrosion of both newer (1960's) steel pole and older (1940's) steel lattice structures. Examples of corrosion in smaller-size overhead conductors

New York State

"Running Angle" wood pole structure in Niskayuna. 765kV suspension structure presently energized at 345kV.  Note 4 conductor bundle. Contrasting steel lattice structure designs adjacent to a road crossing.  115kV Steel lattice self-supporting angle structures.  One double circuit with only one circuit on the other horizontal.  Both set in a flood plane (note high foundation piers) near the Mohawk River.

An old (1950's) 230kv double circuit structure transmission line with only one circuit conductored and close-up of "arcing horns" on strain insulators.
