This property on Johnson Road just east of the Mason County Airport sends a symbol of peace to the world. I discovered this oddity while laboriously poring over satellite images I have acquired of Mason County.
Plenty of preparation and foresight went into planting trees in this way. This family wishes to share their message of peace in the grandest possible way. We could all take a lesson from this; when we have built peace in our homes, the rest of the world will see. |
History of the Peace Symbol (Not definitive)
My research found a source which explains how the symbol was conceived by placing the international flag symbols for N and D (Nuclear Disarmament) on top of each other and circumscribing the combination with a circle. A Google search returned a site which defined International Signal Flags. This site shows each letter of the alphabet by Semaphore Flag. When the semaphore for N and D are placed on top of each other, they do indeed look just like the Peace Symbol. |
