SHIP MODEL RESTORATIONS

Over the last 10 years I have restored numerous models in all catagories: Full rigged ships, schooners, yachts, tugs, merchant ships and dioramas. Following are some varied examples of these.

WANDERER

A very well done model of the last American whaling ship.

Repairs included cleaning, paint touch up and regigging.

HALF MOON - before and after

A very simple example of Henry Hudson's famous ship.

Restoration included complete cleaning and full re-rigging.

FLYING CLOUD

Built in the mid '60's from a quality kit, the pressed paper deck had curled up away from the bulwarks.

The restoration included complete removal of the rig, deck furniture, deck and then making up a new wood deck. The rig was then re-installed and repaird.

INDEPENDENCE

The owner brought this yacht model in for "touch up". She was a slab sided poor representation of this Alden schooner. After many discussions the owner deceided to have us do a complete rebuild as an authentic reproduction of this classic. The hull was completly re-shaped and the model totaly restored. As a result the Alden Schooner Association has put us on their list of reccomended model builders.

FULL RIGGED SHIP - before and after

After a long life and many storms this model arrived with much dry rot causing the rig failure. We totaly rebuilt her using West System, new mast and yards of northern ash and stainless were added and the finished product should last for many years.

19th Century diorama of a full rigged ship arrived with broken masts and carved wood sails in dire need. The horse hair plaster water was in terrible shape. Acomplete restoration was done.

AMERICAN SCOUT before and after

This kit built model required extensive repairs. the wheelhous bulkheads were crushed, cargo booms missing, blocks and pulleys missing, all running rigging and life lines rotton or gone and the entire model needed cleaning and touch-up.

THE GREAT WHITE FLEET (mini ships)

This restoration included complete rebuild of 7 small (2"-7") models constructed in the 1930's of wood from fruit crates. Restoration included construction of many missing pieces - aircraft, guns, masts etc and the construction of a maple case.
