Hardiness Zone Maps

The US Department of Agriculture has developed a plant hardiness zone map for North America, including Canada and Mexico. The purpose of the map is to give a general indication of winter temperatures so that gardeners and landscapers can plan on what plants will grow in which areas. For example, plants that are rated for "Zone Three" will likely survive winters in that zone or any that are numbered higher. Though this does not guarantee the plant will survive any other conditions such as summer heat, drought, humidity, or wind conditions. Neither is this a guarantee that a plant will survive exceptionally cold or long winter seasons.
