Bavinton

From on Tue, 17 May 2005

Hi Elizabeth, I am married to a Bavinton and have been doing considerable research on William Thomas Bavinton and Mary Ann Rowe during which I came across your website. Your list of William Thomas and Mary Ann's children contained three I was not aware of: Clara, Ann and Henry, but is missing Mary Ann 1847-1848 who died before the family left England.
I also note that you are missing a few of the children of John Rowe Bavinton (1849) and Alice Kezia Glover. They are: Christina Loiuse 1889-1925 who married James Bennett, Nellie Victoria b 1892 who married Hubert Little, and Jessie edna b 1895 who married Wilfred Moyle.
My husband is descended through Samual Atwell Bavinton 1881-1953.

William Bavinton is a Signatory of the 1853 Bendigo Goldfields Petition to reduce the cost of Gold Licences, presented to His Excellency Charles Joseph La Trobe on 1st August 1853.

From Coryn family tree, which includes
1.2 JOHN GULLY (1731-1758), baptized at Kenwyn in April 1731. He married Clarinda Vivian on 23 February 1754. Clarinda had been baptized at Connelly on 15 October 1732, the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Vivian. John and Clarinda Gully had two daughters, the second became a Mrs Hambly. The elder daughter was:
1.2.1 SUSANNAH GULLY (1755-??), baptized at Conelly on 19 August 1755. She married Joseph Rowe on 25 April 1775. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Rowe. Their issue included:
1.2.1.1 JOHN ROWE (178?-18??), baptized at Lostwithiel on 7 July 178? (or 1778?), who married Nancy Parsons at Stoke Damerel on 27 May 1812. His daughter, Mary Ann Rowe married William Thomas Bavinton at Deptford, and emigrated to Australia. From her is descended Pauline Markwell, née Bavinton, who supplied information about John Gully's descendants.
Also found in Rootsweb William Thomas Bavinton, Born: 1813, England,
Marriage: Mary Ann Rowe 22 Sep 1845 at St Nicholas in Deptford, Kent, England,
Died: 1870, at age 57,
(Mary Ann Rowe was born before 1830 and died after 1867.)

For passenger list see Ship list for Lady McNaughten, Wooden ship of 558 tons, built at Calcutta in 1825

Mary Ann Rowe Bavinton as Mary Ann Bavington, came to Adelaide on the Lady McNaghten, left London on 15 June 1851 with Captain J Hinnert, arrived Port Adelaide on 23 Sep 1851 with John Rowe Bavinton 2yrs old, William Thomas Bavinton 5 months, and her mother Nancy {Ann} Rowe. They arrived in Adelaide 29 September 1851- Paid own fare. The ship was two days stuck on St.Vincent’s Gulf and all had to be taken off. As the voyage only took 3 mths, they must have gone as close to the Antarctic as the captain dared to take advantage of the winds. Did Wm Thos.. work his way out with them, or come out before.?

Pauline Markwell (Bavinton)

Boundy

John Boundy wed 20 APR 1831 to Mary Pook at West Worlington, Devon, England

John Boundy and Mary were in Melbourne by 1841, when the first of 4 children were baptised, Mary Jane as Methodist, and then Mary Jane as Church of England, suggesting the town was just getting established.
Mary appears to be Mary Pook 1812 - 1884 #5037 aged 72, daughter of Grace Dart and Thomas Pook, and mother of John Henry Boundy
Is William Boundy wed 1864 to Catherine Williamson Tolmie also a son?
