George Oborne married Jane Gray on 19 Oct 1806, at Gillingham, Dorset. She appears to be the daughter of Ann King and John Gray, born and baptised at Gillingham on 20 May, 1787. Two sons migrated to Australia.

Jane's children appears to include two sets of twins.

From Hann Family History on Sat, 3 Aug 2002
G'day Elizabeth
Just a quick note to thank you for helping me pass a brick-wall on an unrelated part of the Hann family.
For many years I have had a Thomas and Mary Hann who were having children in Portsmouth from 1810 - 1826 that I could not place. I also had a tree from a third party that had Thomas Hann marrying Mary Grey on 12 Sep 1805 in Gillingham, Dorset. The only child that was shown was born in 1846(?).
Recently I discovered that 1846 should have read 1806, but after that Thomas and Mary disappeared. It wasn't 'til I saw your web-page that I was able to piece the jigsaw together again.
When you said that John Oborne had married Ann Elizabeth Hann daughter of John and Mary (Grey) I linked her to the Gillingham couple. I then was wondering whether they married before or after they emigrated and seeing that the first child was born in 1853 started looking around that time. I discovered a marriage of Ann Elizabeth in Portsea R D in the 4th quarter of 1848.
Wondering whether this was feasible as Gillingham and Portsmouth are quite a way apart I suddenly remembered the mystery Thomas and Mary from the IGI and lo and behold Ann Elizabeth was christened at St Mary's Portsmouth on 16 April 1820.
Although it's all circumstantial at the moment it looks pretty certain that Thomas and Mary married in, and had a daughter in Gillingham in 1805 and 1806 then moved to Portsmouth and continued having their family there
Thanks again
Eddie Hann

2. Frances Oborne 1855 registered the birth of William James Oborne at Colac 1876

Frances, her story told by her great grand-daughter Margaret alias gilliemac.
The father of Frances's first child is not known, I can't trace him since his birth. Frances then moved to just outside Castlemaine and worked as a domestic servant. Married a weaver called John McNeight in Castlemaine on 20 June 1880. John was 17, Frances was 25. They had 2 children Ellen & Ethel. On 10th May 1883, John was charged with desertion (Re Police Gazette). No record of his return or capture has been found. John McNeight supposedly died aged only 25 years old, family folklore says he was killed "when a bolting horse crashed down a mine shaft", cannot confirm this as I cannot find a death.

Frances then became a housekeeper to a Thomas Whyatt, having 3 children by him (defacto) Thomas, (my grandfather), Agnes, and Catherine, children were registered as Oborne then Whyatt then finely McNeight (my maiden name was McNeight) Thomas dies at 43 after being in and out of hospital for years. The children are recognised as Thomas's children on their birth certs as illegitimate and in his will. The 3 children were left 50 pounds each. Frances was left the house, farm, etc. No mention is made of Ellen & Ethel in the will, however they were living with Thomas.
In 1894 another child was born Georgina Frances also known as Meg, father listed as John McNeight on her birth cert. Frances was 49 years old when she died of TB. On Isabella's death certificate, Frances is listed as still alive so there must have been a rift between them as Frances had died in 1904.

Frances McNeight and Thomas Whyatt are buried together in the Ballarat cemetery.

From Melinda Skinner on Mon, 24 Mar 2008

Dear Elizabeth,
My name is Melinda Skinner nee Toleman and I was flicking around the Internet and came across your web page for Oborne. I just wanted to let you know that some of the information there regarding William Toleman is incorrect, as I have done a fair bit of research on my Toleman line.

William is in fact the son of John and Hannah Toleman nee Gill who were married 12 Aug 1818 in Bothenhampton but what threw me for a few years was William's baptism as I could not find it but a distant cousin in England (and a direct descendant of John Toleman & Efflet Cleal) went to Bridport/Bothenhampton and searched the parish records and found that he was christened as John but this name was crossed out. The date of William's birthdate is 27/12/1818. (This birthdate comes from our family bible) William married Maryann Norman on 13th Aug 1840 at Bothenhampton Parish Church and then sailed for Australia aboard the "Gilmore" arriving in January 1841. My ggrandfather Joseph was born in Australia in 1843.

William's father John was christened 8/12/1793 and is the son of John Toleman and Jane Hayward married 1789, this John is a 2nd cousin of the John who married Efflet Cleal.
If you would like any more information please contact me I have loads of Toleman certificates and pictures
Regards, Melinda
