Dear Elizabeth:
I invite you to view my web site for Taggert family, where you may find the family of Beatrice Pacoe, the wife of William James Furneaux.
I was delighted to find your web page, as finding the descendents of Matilda Mary Taggett and her husband Joseph Hicks (Beatrice's grandparents) has been a nightmare. I descendent from Matilda's older brother Josiah.
In 1852, Beatrice's grandparents arrived at Port "B" (Port Philip) aboard the "Augusta Schneider" along with their 3 children who had been born in Redruth, Cornwall, England. Also on board was Matilda's youngest brother Henry, his wife and their 2 children.
On the 1841 Census in England it details that Matilda and Henry were 15 years old. However, the baptismal record has never been located to date for Henry. Further, at the time, both Matilda and Henry worked as "Tin Dressers" in the mines of Cornwall. It was an extremely tough job, and I am sure that both had many dreams of what life could bring if they were successful on the Goldfields.
Beatrice is the daughter of Mary Matilda Hicks and her second husband Edward Joseph Pascoe. You may be interested in the following information:
Family History provided by Betty Brown:
Mary, along with her siblings Joseph, William, Thomas and Frederick went to Colorado in America. It is not know if her husband went or not. There is no record of Mary's husband.
Mary then married Edward Joseph Pascoe. They, along with their first child, sailed to Sydney on the "City of Sydney" leaving San Francisco 23 October 1880. Their younger children were born in Sandhurst Victoria, later to be renamed Bendigo.
Elizabeth, I was under the impression that William Furneaux and Beatrice has a son, also named William James Furneaux in 1907. Since your records are far more details than the information I have, I am wondering if you can verify that.
Finally, I would very much like to add some of your information (giving full credit to you, and the address of your web site).... if I may.
I look forward to hearing from you....
Patricia Ann Taggett
