Half-Elves | Qualinesti | Silvanesti | Kagonesti | Dargonesti | Dimernesti

Half-Elves are the hybrid result of a human and elven union. It does not matter which race of human or elf decides to pair up; the result is the same. Kind of a halfway point between the races, this mix tends to have the best qualities of both races. Unfortunately, some of the side effects of this is the inability to truly bond with anyone; the mixture tends to create a hatred from both races. Most tend to be loners, not truly accepted in the ancient Elven homes or in a city of humans.

The most famous Half-Elf was Tanthalas Half-Elven, otherwise known as Tanis. His personal struggles between his human half and his elven side resulted in a very difficult life for him. Ultimately, he married Lauralanthalasa, daughter to Solastaran.

Qualinesti elves are the cousins of Silvanesti elves. During the Age of Dreams, they were led to the forests of Qualinost by Kith-Kanan after the tragic Kinslayer Wars. They placed a Speaker of the Sun to rule them, in direct opposition to the Silvanesti Speaker of the Stars. Qualinesti elves tend to be more open and hospitable to other races, but they still keep their homeland closed. The War of the Lance caused many Qualinesti elves to change their minds about the other races, and the borders of Qualinost were opened...

Amongst the Heroes of the Lance was Lauralanthalasa, or Laurana, daughter of the Speaker of the Sun Solastaran. She was in love with Tanis, and had to learn a hard lesson before he saw her as a woman. She ultimately came to be known as the Golden General, and won the hearts and respect of the Knights of Solamnia.

The Silvanesti elves, also known as the “High Elves”, used to reside in Silvanost. After the perversion of their homeland, they migrated to Qualinost to find sanctuary from the horrific nightmare that was the reality in their homeland. The Silvanesti are very arrogant, and tend to be cool and aloof to other races. They have strict rules governing most aspects of their lives, and anyone who breaks them is punished by exile. Dalamar Argent found this out the hard way.

One Silvanesti elf overcame her pride and arrogance and fell in love with a lowly Knight of the Crown. Alhana Starbreeze, daughter to the Speaker of the Stars, found herself in love with the strict, yet courageous Sturm Brightblade. The ill-fated romance left Alhana devistated, and the marriage that ensued to Porthios is nothing more than a political union between the Elven Nations.

The “Wild Elves” of Krynn are the savage-painted, dark-skinned elves that wander the forests as nomads. They dress plainly, and their homes are very simple construction; no where near the grandiose scale of Qualinost or Silvanost. The are excellent hunters, and are very agile and quiet as they stalk their prey. They are the true rangers of the elven race. Most of the other races of elves tend to look down on the Kagonesti as crude and uncivilized. They are the furthest from this, however.

The Kagonesti are also the favorite race of the Silver dragons. It is very commonplace for a Silver dragon to shift into a Kagonesti elf form. The only side effect is they can very easily fall in love with the lower races... and history repeated itself with Silvara. Silvara was the Silver dragon Dargent, sister to the legendary Silver dragon mount of Huma. She fell in love with Gilthanas, and the two disappeared shortly after the War of the Lance.

The Dargonesti are sea elves who live off the eastern coasts of Ansalon. Rumor has it that the Dargonesti were originally land elves who were mariners and were transformed into aquatic elves by the passing of the Graygem. The Dargonesti are the “grey” elves of the sea; they are the more civilized than their Dimernesti cousins.

Dargonesti elves are lead by the Speaker of the Moons. Though little is known of them, the Dargonesti have bluish skin, as well as webbed feet and gills. In addition to being able to breathe water, the Dargonesti are able to transform themselves into dolphins. They are considered one of the Lost Races of Krynn, and were featured in a novel.

The Dimernesti are the “high” sea elves, with all the characteristics of their Dargonesti cousins, with the exception that they turn themselves into sea otters rather than dolphins. The Dimernesti elves are ruled by the Speaker of the Sea. Less is known about the Dimernesti than the Dargonesti. There are no known images of the Dimernesti elves.
