Since 2001, the Ottawa FFA has gone from 15 members
to more than 30. It has become "The Team to Beat"
in a number of district CDEs and is competitive at the state
level.
During the 2002-2003 school year, the Ottawa FFA won several
of the ECD district CDEs, including Dairy Cattle, Junior Speech,
Creed, and Meats. We also placed well in Entomology, coming
out as the top team at Fort Scott Aggie Days. |
Nearing retirement, Advisor S.S. Bergsma failed
to fight for the constructon of an agriculture department in
the new high school being built. The notably successful Ottawa
FFA chapter was lost, not to be seen again for more than 45
years.
With the help of Ottawa High School Administration, especially
OHS Assistant Principal Royce Powelson, the Agriculture Department
of Ottawa High School was born again. Blake Lasley, an agriculture
instructor fresh out of Kansas State University was hired as
the new Ottawa FFA Advisor. With his help an nearly 20 members
the first year, the Ottawa FFA embarked on the continuation of a winning
legacy begun so many years ago. |
