To make your star you will need...
Paper for your star point foundation

Sheets of paper large enough to draw your star points on.

Depending on your bed size you will need anywhere from a 20 inch length of paper for a twin size quilt to a 35 inch length for a King size bed.

(There is a handy chart to help you figure it all out.)

Good choices for paper sources...

Craft paper on a roll you can get at stores like K-mart. Look for it in the kids art section.

You can get newspaper print end rolls, sometimes for free or a small charge from any place that puts out a newspaper.

Old style continous computer paper that has the holes at the edges. It is usually thin paper and nice to work on. You can glue two sections together for a wider strip.

Doctor exam paper is a good find.  You can beg some from the doctor or buy it a medical supply houses.  It is lightweight and easy to sew through.

Freezer paper is neat to use.  If you sew to the shiny side, the fabric will "stick" to the paper when you press it over and won't slip.

I am sure you can think of some other papers to use. Let me know!

A 45 degree template for the "big star" point of your desired size. The directions for doing that several ways are following. Nice to have is a 6" X 24" ruler for drafting your star diamonds.
Fabric scrap bag or purchase new fabric if you don't have a stash.  Neutral color of thread. I like a light gray or tan color. Thread for sewing in background pieces can match the fabric.

Rotary cutter, ruler and mat to cut your strips.
Chocolate, tea... snack of your choice... (not for the quilt, for you!)
Sewing machine in good working order.
