Movie Character Profiles
Unfortunately, I don't have information about many of the characters Daniel has played in movies! I'm slowly working on this, but in the meantime, if you've seen any of the other movies he's been in and can give a somewhat detailed profile of his character, by all means send it in! Make sure to send it to stagescreen2001@yahoo.com! The 10th Kingdom To read about Daniel's character, Prince Wendell, click here. Muriel's Wedding Thanks to Karen for this character summary! South African David Van Arckle is a swimmer who needs to secure Australian citizenship so that he can swim in the Olympics. He's a little bit resistant to the idea of marrying an Australian citizen just to stay in the country and swim for them in the Olympics; however, he really wants to win the gold, and this is the only way he can do it. His coach puts a personal ad in the newspaper, "wife wanted", which Muriel (Toni Collette) sees, and she comes to meet them at the pool. He gets out of the pool, a little bit dazed (and we get to see him in his bathing suit!). He doesn't say much while his coach interviews Muriel. She readily agrees to marry him, and will get $10,000 for doing it. The agreement is that they'll have to live together as man and wife for at least four months, and give the appearance of being a happily married couple, in order to fool immigration. We then cut to the church, where David is waiting nervously at the altar. The coach is his best man, and seems more enthusiastic. David doesn't say much at all during Muriel's walk down the aisle, except to mention to his coach that he thought it would be a private civil ceremony. The coach even has to nudge him when they come to the "I do" part. After the ceremony, they get back to his apartment overlooking Sydney harbor. He pretty much shows her the room she'll be staying in, and then goes down to the pool to swim. Before he goes, he asks her a little bit degradingly, "what kind of person would marry someone they don't even know". They don't show much of their relationship, but we can gather that they don't have much in common...he spends his time swimming, and she stays in the apartment watching the wedding video over and over again. The turnaround comes when her mother dies. She goes back home immediately, and is so upset she leaves the funeral in tears. Outside the church, she sees David waiting for her. They end up going to a hotel, where he tries to comfort her, and they end up doing the deed! They wake up the next morning, and she realizes that her whole life is a lie, and that she can't stay married to him because she doesn't love him (you have to see the beginning of the movie to understand her motivation). He says that he doesn't love her either, but he could get used to having her around. She gives him the ring back, and then leaves. Polish Wedding Ziggy Pzoniak is the elder brother of Hala (Claire Danes). He's first seen with his crying baby son, whom he seems to regard with some trepidation. Other than that, though, he's not seen much in the film, so not much more is known about him other than that he's not a very good father, has a rather touchy temper, and is very willing to force a guy into marrying his sister to save her honor. Brokedown Palace Handsome and charming, Australian Nick Parks is a hard man to resist. As one victim of his charms remarked, he has a way of making a girl feel like she's the only one he sees, even if they're in a room full of people. In the cases of Alice and Darlene, this is only too true. Behind that charming exterior is a man who makes a living by smuggling drugs (and using naive girls like Darlene). He first meets the two girls by saving them from trouble when they pretended to be guests at a fancy Thailand hotel. Had the girls not gone after him, they might have very well been spared years' worth of troubles, but they chase after him, and he uses them as his next victims. After romancing the more naive of the two (Darlene), Nick convinces them both to meet him in Hong Kong. However, neither of them make it, because he somehow managed to slip several kilos of heroin into Alice's backpack. The girls get thrown into a Thai prison while Nick Parks (an anagram of his real name, Skip K. Carn) all but completely disappears, presumably to continue with his profession of smuggling drugs and seducing young women. Ritual In this movie, Daniel plays cancer patient Wesley Claybourne. His brother Paul sends for oncologist Dr. Alice Dodgson (Eve Kent?) to come to Jamaica and treat the pessimistic Wesley. Eventually, the doctor-patient relationship develops into something more. Before long, it's discovered that Wesley isn't just suffering from cancer, he's also the victim of a powerful voodoo priest! Another of my rather undetailed profiles. All the information I could find about the movie, previous to its release, changed from one site to another so it was difficult to say what was correct. If any of you have seen this movie and can give a summary of Daniel's character (not the whole movie, just his character), please email me at stagescreen2001@yahoo.com! The Abduction Club Byrne is a younger son of a wealthy Irish family...which means that all the wealth will go to his older brother, and the available wealthy brides, too! In an attempt to secure his financial future, he joins an 'abduction club' (stealing away young heiresses and attempting to charm them into marriage). He and Strang go after the Kennedy sisters, not knowing that they've gotten into more trouble than they bargained for!
