Tsukishima Shizuku

The typical bookworm, it's a wonder she does not wear glasses. At fourteen, she does not think about the future and only lives day by day. The adventure starts from, of all places, a library card.

Tsukishima Seiya

Shizuku's father works in the local library where Shizuku frequents very often. Basically, he's the typical father who neither over-protects his children nor neglects them.

Tsukishima Asako

Contrary to the norm, Shizuku's Mother studies instead of being a housewife or a working mother. Apparently, age does not prevent her from taking up further studies.

Tsukishima Shio

Shizuku's sister, Shio, is currently in college. Apart from helping in the housework, she also takes up part-time jobs to contribute to the family income. She also helps her mother in the accounting.

Harada Yuuko

Yuuko is Shizuku's best friend. Early in the story, she lets go of the fact that she has a crush in Sugimura, a boy in the same class as her. Unfortunately, a guy from another class is interested in her while Sugimura doesn't. Yuuko is a simple protrayal of the typical japanese girl.

Sugimura

Baseball player, classmate, secret admirer of Shizuku. Too bad Shizuku is not interested in him although Yuuko is. He is of course disappointed when Shizuku rejects his love. Fortunately, in the end, Yuuko and him got together happily.

Amasawa Seiji

Seiji first noticed Shizuku through the library cards. Being an avid reader himself, he read tons of books just so his name was before hers. Seiji's frankness gets Shizuku's strong disapproval earlier in the movie. His grandfather is the shopkeeper of the Earth Shop.

Nishi Shirou

Seiji's grandfather owns a shop that is closed more often than open. A series of events brought Shizuku to his shop when it was open and she was able to see an ancient clock finally fixed just before it was returned to its owner. He owns a cat figurine by the name of Baron, a sad reminder of his past.

Moon

Thanks to this cat, Shizuku found the shop belonging to Seiji's grandfather. Moon is not a stray, although it acts like one. In one scene, we hear a child calling Moon "Muta".

Baron

The Baron is just a figurine but Shizuku brought it alive in her story entitled (translated) "The story the Baron told me." By coincidence, the history of the Baron is almost identical to the story Shizuku wrote. According to Nishi-san, it's full name is rather grand: Humbert Von Jikkingen.
