Recommendations
(complete Mazzy Star Discography follows below)

First off, buy the three albums. They're all good, though my favorite is still So Tonight That I Might See, probably because it was the first Mazzy CD I heard. (That's usually the way it works.) As for non-album material, I've been somewhat disappointed--there's really not that much out there.

She Hangs Brightly
No non-album tracks were released from Mazzy Star's debut effort.

So Tonight That I Might See
All you need to do is track down a copy of the Fade Into You
In-Store promotional CD. It features Bake My Biscuit (gimmicky, but kinda cute), Under My Car (pretty good, but not good enough to make the album cut), an acoustic version of Bells Ring (nice) and three live tracks from MTV Europe. It's worth having but, I understand, it is getting hard to find and expensive. (The commercially released Fade Into You CD-single does not have the live tracks, but is cheaper and more common, so be careful & know what you're buying.)

Among My Swan
spawned two different Flowers in December CD-singles in the UK and each has 2 non-album tracks. On CD1 is Tell Your Honey, an acoustic, seemingly improvised track I'm not too crazy about. ( In fact, I think it's their weakest song, but, then again, the worst Mazzy song still blows away the best of Celine Dion.) I like the second song, Hair and Skin--it rocks. I'm a big fan of the cheesey organ sound. Flowers CD2 includes Had a Thought, and a live version of Ride It On. Haven't received this one yet, so I can't assess it. Each of these CD's usually costs about US$10-12, so if you're a completist, this little Brit marketing ploy really drives your costs up. There is also a less-common double-pack CD (with CD1 & CD2), which is a little cheaper.

Tell Me Now, from the Batman Forever soundtrack, is the only other stray Mazzy song you have to worry about. It's a nice song and it's easy to find the CD used. And then you have Sometimes Always, Hope's duet with Jim Read on The Jesus and Mary Chain's Stoned & Dethroned CD.

That's it for the official Mazzy Star songlist. As far as I can tell. If I missed anything, let me know. Of course, there are some unofficial releases out there, on tape - they're called bootlegs. They have their own section.

If you can't find some of these CD's or you don't want to spend all that money for a few extra songs, there's always the possibility you can get someone to tape them for you. Maybe you can set up a trade.

Contribute to Everything Mazzy. I still want to compile a list of every Mazzy CD, single, promotional, import and LP ever released. I want catalog # and track listings for each item. Anything not listed below is a mystery to me, so please enlighten me. If you have anything else, I'd like to hear about it--E-mail me with the details.
