Can I Truly Be Thankful? By Teresa B.

As the holidays quickly approach, I sense hesitation and reluctance which I never had before. I have always loved the holidays even more as a child. To me these days once were a time of family, love, peace, giving of one's self, remembrance and a time to be thankful. This year I am bitter. Be thankful for what? That my son is dead or that I am hurting so badly? Perhaps be thankful for that empty place at the dinner table or the pictures that I can touch but have nothing to compare them to. My head tells me to remember the little things that as adults we forget about. I can be thankful for the sun, the moon, and the stars. Trees, birds and butterfly. Cuddling up with a blanket and a good book on a cold day. Old friends and new friends. My head keeps rattling off things but my heart … still hurts. I just don't know if I will ever recapture the love I had for the holidays but I will muddle through. Just as all of us will. Jim and I will be thinking of you all, as we always do, during this rough time we must endure. Hang in there and know that you are not alone.

  • Thoughts:
    • Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.
    • Never place a period where God has placed a comma.
