A NEW HOPE?

spacer.gif (836 bytes)On February 22, 2001, the announcement Battlestar Galactica fans had long waited for finally came—Battlestar Galactica returns! Spearheaded by acclaimed X-Men director Bryan Singer and X-Men Executive Producer Tom DeSanto, StudiosUSA, the former TV division of Universal Studios and holder of the BG copyrights, revealed that Battlestar Galactica would be revived as a TV series on Fox, to premiere sometime in 2002.  But the Singer/DeSanto revival effort ran into difficulties, beginning when Bryan Singer was sucked out of the project by Fox to start work on a sequel to his X-Men film, following which Fox of course dropped their commitment to a series.  DeSanto continued the effort, apparently reaching a stage where sets were actually constructed.  What happened next is mysterious, but the end result is that DeSanto was taken off the project and it was handed to producer David Eick and writer Ronald Moore.  Their version of BG was shot as a miniseries, received approval for one season, and has since been renewed for a second season. It is the highest-rated original program in the history of  the Sci-Fi Network..
